Another boost for town's Civil War project

Kids will get a taste of life during English Civil War thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Plans to recreate Newport Pagnell’s role in the English Civil War have received another boost with the award of a £9,700 Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant so local schoolchildren can experience life in the 17th century.

The grant will help support a spectacular free event over this year’s August Bank Holiday, when hundreds of reenactors will stage battles on Bury Field Common.

It follows grants already pledged by the Milton Keynes Community Foundation, Milton Keynes Borough Council, Newport Pagnell Town Council and the Bury Field Commoners Association.

Plans for the Civil War Weekend on August 28 and 29 are well advanced.

The English Civil War Society (ECWS) is bringing along its members dressed as pike men, musketeers, cavalry and artillery, as well as women and children in period costume within a Living History village.

The Newport Pagnell event will be one of the biggest in the ECWS’ 2016 calendar.
