That is the verdict of Councillor Nigel Long, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adults at Milton Keynes Council.

He told the Citizen: “The Healthcare Review was a carbon copy of the same reviews all round the country. It was about cutting NHS costs by cutting A&Es and maternity services.

“It has cost millions in payments to rich consultants and now they are doing yet another review.

“This must stop. I say fund MK hospital properly, expand maternity and develop the A&E into a major trauma unit.”

He added: “The danger of MK is not just under-funding - the latest review, the
so-called STP review is about revisiting the proposal
to grow the maternity unit and create a major trauma centre. It is being led by the chief executive of a nearby hospital.

“I fear she will do the governments cuts and not listen to the people of MK. But whatever happens the review will direct more money from investing in our hospital.”
