The Young Fashion Designer of the Year Awards are back, and they plan to be bigger and better than the last.
Launched by Midsummer Place in 2010, the awards were designed to celebrate and showcase some of the young talent that our City has to offer.
The search is now on for the 2012 winners, with a design brief of ‘Royal Ascot throughout the Years and Vivienne Westwood’. Due to the high quality of work that was entered this year, Midsummer Pace has upped the prize for the overall winner.
The 2010/2011 awards were a huge success with over 100 students entering from five local schools with an outstanding level of work being submitted, which was showcased in a finale catwalk show watched by over 600 people.
Centre Manager, Martin Hindson said, “As the ‘Fashionable Quarter’ we have set up this annual event to celebrate the young talent of Milton Keynes, and a department that is sometime over looked, fashion and textiles. The response we received during the 2010/2011 awards was outstanding and we hope that this year even more schools and students will take part”.
The awards are open to all 12-18 year olds, local schools will be invited to take part with pupils from years 8, 9.10,11 and 6th Form to submit their best work.
The fashionable quarter is pleased to be organising the event for the second year running and is supported by their retailers , which include some of the most credible names in fashion – Karen Millen, Hugo Boss, Coast, Superdry and Hollister to name but a few.
