A MAN has been arrested following a sexual assault in a residential property over the weekend.

The 21-year-old remains in custody after being arrested on Sunday afternoon.

It followed an incident on the morning of the same day when a woman was subjected to a sexual and physical assault in her own home in Bradville.

A man entered the property between 7am and 8am through an insecure door while the victim was asleep.

After the attack the offender left the property and the victim raised the alarm.

The woman, who is in her fifties, was taken to Milton Keynes General Hospital for treatment.

Detective Inspector Nick Glister, of Force CID in Milton Keynes, said: “This appears to be an opportunistic incident in which the offender has entered through an insecure door. The details around the exact nature of the offence are still being investigated.

“We are fully supporting the victim, who has been through an extremely distressing ordeal in her own home.

“While incidents such as this are rare, it is prudent to re-iterate how important it is to keep doors and windows secure at night, even during the warmer summer weather and especially on the ground floor.

“We have a team of detectives working on the inquiry and we are appealing for anyone in the local community who saw a man matching the above description acting suspiciously in the area, to come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should call Thames Valley Police’s 24-hour Enquiry Centre 101, quoting URN 489, 01/07/12, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
