Arsonists start third fire in two weeks at Milton Keynes nature reserve

Firefighters were called to a city nature reserve for the third time in two weeks last night.

A deliberate fire was started at the Blue Lagoon in Bletchley just before 6pm.

Firefighters had to used water backpacks and buckets of water to put the fire out before it spread too far.

Once again, they are positive the blaze was started by lockdown arsonists.

Firefighters were first called to the Blue Lagoon on Tuesday April 14, when a blaze was quickly spreading and threatening to destroy wildlife and habitats.

Eight days later, on Wednesday last week, they were called out to the nature reserve again, this time to deal with a fire in the woodland area.

Now, after The third blaze, it is understood police will be stepping up patrols of the area.

All the fires have happened between 5.50pm and 8.30pm..

The Blue Lagoon was created from clay pits from a former brickworks site and the surrounding woodland to be a haven for wildlife.

It is home to foxes, grey squirrel, muntjac deer, rabbits, grass snakes and Great Crested Newts as well are rare bird species including willow warblers, whitethroats, woodpeckers and grasshopper warblers.
