It has been announced Milton Keynes’ Bailey McConnell has missed out on the opportunity to perform in Saturday night’s final of Britain’s Got Talent as a wildcard.

Despite ranking top in online polls to be given a second chance by the judges, Bailey was beaten to the punch by impressionist Jon Clegg.

“I’m feeling really positive,” Bailey told the Citizen just moments after the news was announced.

“Someone from the show called to tell me that I wasn’t the wildcard, but I felt fine about it.

“I had guessed it wasn’t me because there are lot of kids in the final already.

“Bars and Melody and James Smith were voted through so I thought they might not want someone similar like me.”

Instead of was Jon Clegg’s impressions that won him a place in Saturday’s final.

“I think the judges were looking for a variety act and that’s Jon.

“I actually met him and he’s such a nice guy - he was even doing impressions to me backstage - the underdog one from the TV advert!”

But Bailey is adament that although his Britain’s Got Talent journey is over, he will continue to follow his dream of working in the music business.

“I am not setting my hopes on getting signed by Simon, but I’m going to take it a step at a time and just keep doing what I’m doing.

“I will make sure I take any opportunity that comes towards me.

“I’ve already been in the studio to practice and I’m recording Never Say Never this week, which is the song I would have sung in the final.”

Writing to his fans on Twitter, Bailey said: “Hey everyone, looks as though my Britain’s Got Talent journey is over - the amazing Jon Clegg got the WildCard. #

“Thanks to you all for your support.

“I had a great time on the show and have me the chance to sing my own songs on that massive stage! I really loved it.

“I’m going to record the song Now Or Never this week as well, which is the song I would have sung for the final.”

Winner of the wildcard, Jon Clegg, said: “Woohoooooo!! Absolutely ecstatic to be the #BGT wildcard !! So many talented and awesome people in the running so I’m overwhelmed !!!”
