A CHARITY duck race held on Bank Holiday Monday has helped to raise more than £1,000 for two city charities.

On Sunday, 500 rubber ducks were thrown into Harmans Cross, Broughton, by organiser Hazel Taylor and at a cost of £2 per duck the money was soon flying in for Willen Hospice and MK Food Bank.

The course lasted around 20 minutes and people lined the banks to see if their duck was the winner.

Hazel was inspired to raise money for Willen Hospice after she took part in the Midnight Moo event in July and saw the way it brought the community together to raise money for a great cause.

There was some initial problems at the start of the race with ducks getting caught in the reeds but Hazel, pictured, waded in to free them so the race could properly get underway.
