A car boot sale operator has urged bargain hunters to “be sensible” as she prepares to bounce back from the lockdown next weekend.

Shelley Langdon, who runs the weekly sale at the Irish Centre in Bletchley, will reopen for business at 7am on Saturday (June 6).

Special measures to protect visitors from the coronavirus include extra distance between stalls, a ‘one-way’ system and lots of hand sanitiser.

Buyers will be urged to throw their coins into buckets rather than hand cash to sellers.

Michelle, whose family have been running the car boot for 10 years, said: “We will be putting out signs and floor markings asking people to abide by the social distancing.

“The sale is held in a massive field so there will be plenty of room between stalls.

“There is going to be a one-way system. We will ask visitors not to linger too long and to look at the item with their eyes - only pick it up if you intend to buy.

“They should also wash items when they get home.

“Boris (Johnson) said that markets can open from June 1 and we come under that category.

“Being outside is safer and we will recommend that people use hand gel, wear gloves, and cover themselves where possible.

“My husband will be on the gate and he will have gloves, a face mask and hand gel.

“We expect a lot of people to still pay with cash so they should wear gloves, not touch their face, and wash the money or bag it up and take it to the bank.

“Customers should try to have the right money and chuck it into the pot.

“We are relying on the public to be sensible. I just hope it doesn’t rain!”
