Bid to build 5,000 new homes around Milton Keynes villages

An elite civic society is bidding to build a '˜garden village' of thousands of new homes to the north of Newport Pagnell.

The proposal, which would affect the villages of Stoke Goldington and Gayhurst, comes from Bristol’s Society of Merchant Venturers.

It has been submitted to MK Council as part of its Plan:MK consultation.

And, as reported in the Citizen last month, it comes hot on the heels of other developers’ bids to build up to 20,000 homes on countryside at Little Linford and Haversham, plus 10,000 homes to the east towards Cranfield.

The Merchant Venturers say their garden city plan is the best option.

They describe it as a “discreet” settlement rather than an extension of existing villages, and it would offer the best of town and country living.
