Staff and pupils are still on a high after marking the 30th birthday of their school with a very special celebration, recreating the famous Milton Keynes red balloon launch.

Heelands School, in Glovers Lane, has been educating youngsters for 30 years – with the children of some of the very first pupils now being taught at the school.

Current and future teachers and students can look forward to many more years of learning, thanks to a newly built extension.

Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Brian White, and his Lady Mayoress (his wife Leena) visited the school to officially open the new extension and help students celebrate the school’s birthday by releasing 150 red balloons.

Headteacher Lesley Barnard said: “The extension is wonderful and our balloon launch made the day extremely special for those who attended.”
