Bishop cooks up a storm for Big Brekkie

Churches across Bucks are cooking up a storm during Christian Aid Week by hosting a Big Brekkie event to tackle poverty.

Alongside the long-running door-to-door collections, some churches have been taking the opportunity to serve breakfast to raise funds and help some of the world’s poorest people have enough to eat and a safe place to call home.

St Mary’s Church, in Shenley Church End, held its Big Brekkie event on Sunday.

Bishopof Buckingham, Alan Wilson, said: “Everyone knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

“We’re calling on the British public to love every neighbour and support poor communities around the world, who often are forced to live without the basic needs of food and shelter. Together we raise over £120,000 in Buckinghamshire so we can really change things.”

Funds raised in Christian Aid Week will help to tackle poverty among some of the world’s poorest communities, including those living in Bangladesh, where Christian Aid partner GUK works with people in poor rural communities affected by the effects of climate change, to give them somewhere that is safe and dry to live.
