Bride Daisy says '˜I do' top marathon in memory of her dad

Daisy Edmondson wants to raise cash for bowel cancer research as a tribute to her ‘amazing dad’.

Gardener and handyman Andrew Campey died at the age of 59, just a year after he was diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Daisy, who is 28, changed the date of her wedding to fiance Mark so her dad could be there. Just days earlier she watched Andrew get married himself – to his long-term partner June.

Sadly Andrew died weeks later. But Daisy, who lives in Bletchley, is determined he shall not be forgotten.

She began running in earnest as a way to cope with the stress while he was ill.

“When you lose a parent, there’s a lot to deal with. I’d always enjoyed running and wanted to put some positive energy back into the world,” she said. “Dad knew I wanted to do the London Marathon and was really proud. He was the kind of man who’d always say ‘just go for it’, even if he thought I was totally insane.”

“I like the idea of giving something back and helping to fund research. I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else.”

Chief executive of Bowel & Cancer Research, Deborah Gilbert said “We are very sorry that Andrew Campey lost his fight against bowel cancer. Our aim is to fund research so that no one will die of this disease in future.”
