A commercial property landlord in Milton Keynes has taken the opportunity to bend the ear of his local MP over the issue of crippling empty property rates.

Joe Muscat, chairman and principal of business centres owner BUCKS-BIZ, welcomed Milton Keynes North MP Mark Lancaster to the i-Centre, in Newport Pagnell, on Friday, May 23.

Joe, whose company owns Denbigh Business Park, Bletchley Business Campus as well as the i-Centre, said: “Mark is a great supporter of business and of BUCKS-BIZ so I know he will listen to the views of the commercial property sector over this issue.

“Empty business rates means landlords like BUCKS-BIZ have to pay for properties lying empty. “It is a big issue for us because with the money we pay to the government we could be investing more heavily in our flexible units.”

BUCKS-BIZ rents in excess of 250 units of varying sizes from one person serviced offices to a 10 studio filming complex, workshops, warehouses, trade counters, kitchens, health suites and a host more.

Joe added: “We are doing well as a business and investing £650,000 in 25,000 sq-ft of space for growing companies but we could do so much more.”

Licences for clients at BUCKS-BIZ centres start at £240 per month all inclusive of rent, business rates, service charges, building insurance, CCTV cameras, red care intruder alarms to individual units, night patrols and a lot more.
