PLASTIC bottle maker Nampak says it got to its market leading position by focusing on learning and the development in its workforce.
Nampak Plastics Europe is sponsoring the Award for Excellence in People Development at the Milton Keynes & North Bucks Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.
The European head office of the multinational company is in Jenna Way on Interchange Park, Newport Pagnell,
A spokesman for the company said: “Nampak is an organisation that believes passionately that everyone has a talent and giving people an opportunity to realise their potential is crucial to the success of the business.
“That is why we are delighted to be sponsoring the award for Excellence in People Development.”
Nampak Plastics has eight sites in the UK and last year it opened a new plant in Northern Ireland.
Nampak manufactures HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) bottles for the food and drink industry, predominantly manufacturing milk bottles for the major players in the dairy industry.
Nampak has developed the use of recycled HDPE into its own HDPE plastic containers.
The company has been on its own journey to improve as a company. In November 2010 Nampak received the CIPD award for Employee Engagement.
The spokesman explained: “This marked the success of a major culture change programme within the business that had begun in 2007, resulting in a complete reversal of employee advocacy with 80 per cent of employees now believing that Nampak is a great place to work.
“Much of this success can be attributed to the focus that Nampak has placed on learning and development.”
The Excellence in People Development Award will be given to the company that demonstrates excellence in its approach to workforce development.
