THE public got the first chance to see plans for the £30million expansion of thecentre:mk
The proposals will see the market moved to an area between the shopping centre and Midsummer Place, opposite the former site of The Point. Around 400 retail and 250 construction jobs will be created. On Friday and Saturday centre bosses and developers held a public exhibition showing a scale model of the plans in Sunset Walk.
Robert Hall, chief executive of thecentre:mk, said: “We are hoping that not only will the development benefit ourselves and shoppers visiting us but also the market as well.
“We want to upgrade the market and change the appearance. Right now it is sitting under the bridge and people have set up around the pillars. Now they will have much more room to work with.
“We are responding to competition and we will drop back against other key cities unless we continue to develop. These plans will not become a formal application without the public’s input, it is all about them.”
The extension will create substantial retail space for two new units and see the area between TK Maxx and BHS opened up to more light.
