A city actress is set to become the Face of India after being scouted while she was a background dancer.

Amrit Maghera is already working alongside Bollywood film heartthrobs such as Arjun Rampal and Ashkay Kumar.

After being spotted on a film set she was also snapped up by cosmetic giants Lakme and has signed a five-year contract to be its brand ambassador.

Now the former Bury Lawn schoolgirl’s face is on billboards, televisions and in magazines all over India.

The daughter of a Stony Stratford musician, Amrit studied performing arts at Winchester University after leaving school.

A skilled dancer and singer, she received rave reviews after starring in the international feature film Mad About Dance. Last month saw the release of comedy film Goreyan Nu dafa Karo, in which Amrit played opposite famous Indian singer Amrinder Gill.

Already the 26-year-old has been tagged by the Indian Harpers Bazaar magazine as “one of the most promising newcomer actresses this year”

This week Amrit returned to Stony Stratford to visit her family - and pop into the town’s Naidni restaurant for a curry.

“We were all star struck!”” said manager Muj Ahmed.
