House of Fraser will undergo a £4.5million investment to create a ‘premium shopping environment’
thecentre:mk have announced that its anchor store, House of Fraser, will undergo a complete refurbishment due to complete in the autumn.
House of Fraser will be subject to a £4.5 million investment, which will create a premium shopping environment and will see the introduction of new brands.
The existing store will be significantly upgraded, boasting, a light filled and contemporary retail environment, which will enhance shoppers’ experience and reflect House of Fraser’s reputation as a premium department store.
As part of the refit, guests to thecentre:mk can expect the arrival of a home department, as well as the introduction of ‘world of shoes’ and ‘world of accessories’; concepts that have proved hugely popular in House of Fraser’s flagship stores.
As part of the refit, thecentre:mk working with House of Fraser, have submitted plans to create a double-height glass fronted entrance to the department store which will transform the building’s identity within the shopping centre and reflect the department store’s premium status.

Steve Bluff, general manager at House of Fraser, said: “This is the first major refurbishment since the store opened. The refurbishment, combined with the introduction of major new brands, will offer our existing customers an enhanced shopping experience as well as attracting new customers to the centre.
“We believe this significant multi million pound investment shows confidence in the store, the shopping centre and in the region. It really will be a fantastic department store in which the local community in and around Milton Keynes will feel proud of.”
This latest announcement from thecentre:mk builds on the enhancement programme including Destination Dining and the premium retail quarter in the last twelve months, with many new retailers being introduced into the centre, such as Jamie’s Italian and existing retailers upgrading their units.
It is part of thecentre:mk’s long term strategy to revitalise the shopping offer within the centre, whilst respecting the important features of the Listed Building, so as to provide the best shopping experience to the guests at thecentre:mk.
House of Fraser and thecentre:mk will work together to ensure minimal disruption during this exciting change. Work is already underway and will be phased over the next three months to enable House of Fraser to trade as normal. The store is to re-launch in October 2011.
