ONE of best financial directors in the country works in Milton Keynes, that’s official.
Peter Aratoon, of cash machine provider Yourcash, in Breckland, Linford Wood, was named private company financial director of the year at the FDs’ Excellence Awards 2012.
Judges praised Peter for his ability to “initiate and lead a successful MBO, as well bring in investors in a very tough environment for cash.”
He saw off stiff competition from Nick Bray of Sophos, John Leyden of Firezza, Daniel Evans of Silver Street Automotive, Robert Whitrow of Leasedrive Group and Ashley Deakin of Sable Group to pick up the accolade.
The FDs’ Excellence Awards are the biggest national programme celebrating excellence in financial management and are held in association with money gurus’ organisation ICAEW.
Peter’s success was against the trend of the evening, where women dominated, winning four out of the seven individual awards up for grabs.
Lloyds Banking Group won the best bank for business award for the eighth year running and BDO was named as the best auditor to large firms.
Michael Izza, ICAEW’s chief executive, said: “Good FDs help instil and maintain confidence in the businesses they work in as well as developing the plans to move the company forward. Their knowledge and expertise will be vital to help restore confidence and build economic growth. The winners this evening demonstrate leadership, influence and inspiration.”
Dr Neil Bentley, CBI deputy director-general, said: “Strong financial discipline and rigour are essential to the success of British businesses and to sustainable growth. The CBI is a proud supporter of the FDs’ Excellence Awards and our congratulations go out to this year’s winners.”
The FDs’ Excellence Awards ceremony took place on May 24, at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, in London, and were hosted by Fred MacAulay with a keynote speech from Mark Hoban MP, the financial secretary to the Treasury. The awards are supported by Lombard, Ernst & Young, Lloyds Banking Group, Kaplan and Drax.
