A COMPANY based in Newport Pagnell has reached the finals of the National Business Awards.
Childbase, which is owned by its employees, is up against names like BSkyB and LV for the category of Croner Employer of the Year.
Childbase operates 41 nurseries, employs 1,300 people and cares for 4,500 children from birth to eight years. Its policy is to retain talented staff who are committed to the continued success of the company as a whole.
Company HR director Helen Bass said: “We are delighted to be short-listed in this category as people are the cornerstone of our company. The presence of a happy, engaged and highly trained team is critical to the delivery of high standards of care and education.”
Childbase, in Northampton Road, has a number of schemes to engage employees, including sending them on once in a lifetime experiences to expand their horizons with, for example, a fact-finding visit to uniform suppliers in China.
Childbase also has a policy of involving employees in decision making and invests in training and mentoring.
They have seen reduced levels of absenteeism.
The 10th annual National Business Awards, in partnership with Orange, will be given out in November, following a whittling down process starting in September.
