A shopping centre in Milton Keynes is due to mark the official launch of the Christmas season with a parade this afternoon (Friday).

During the Christmas season thecentre:mk hopes to at least match the more than 2.5million people who visited the show in Middleton Hall last year.

Sue Anderson–Brown, interim centre director at thecentre:mk said: “thecentre:mk is the heart of Milton Keynes and last year we welcomed over 2.5million visitors to the Christmas show.

“This year we hope to do the same, attracting visitors from all over the region to share in the wonder of our award winning display.”

A parade will be held from 4.30pm today (Friday), from Door 2, proceeding down Midsummer Arcade to reach Middleton Hall. Warwick Davis, one of the stars of this year’s Milton Keynes Theatre’s pantomime, Snow White and The Seven Dwarves will be leading the parade.

The centre:mk is being transformed into The Land of Enchanted Dreams where visitors can see Snow White and her friends in a range of different scenes, with a gem tree overlooking the show from the centre of the hall.

Visitors can also enjoy a ride through the display on the Heart Radio train, donate coins to this year’s wishing pool, and browse the cabins for gift ideas and stocking fillers for their loved ones.

The traditional carousel is also back and there will be interactive mirrors and games for families to try their hand at.

Santa’s Grotto in the fairytale castle will be open following the procession right through til 6pm on Christmas Eve.

Visited by around 24 million people each year thecentre:mk has more than 170 stores, cafes and restaurants, anchored by John Lewis, House of Fraser, Marks & Spencer and Next.
