Buzy in Milton Keynes opened for homeless winter night shelter

Leader of Milton Keynes Council Councillor Peter Marland, Councillor Douglas McCall and Charles Macdonald, chief executive of Milton Keynes Development Partnership attended the opening.

Richard Wightman, chair of Winter Night Shelter and Jack Walker director of welfare for the shelter also joined the group along with volunteers, team leaders and a handful of homeless people.

Cutting the tape Councillor Marland, said: “Tackling homelessness is one of our top priorities.

“I’m pleased that we could help the night shelter find a home this winter and I’d like to thank all their volunteers for the work they do in making sure some of our most vulnerable citizens get the support they require when they are most in need.”

Councillor Douglas McCall, said: “I am delighted that the winter night shelter was able to secure the Buzy for this winter as their reception centre. “The charity does such great work to help get our homeless off the streets during the coldest winter months.”

Richard Wightman, chair of the charity which offers accommodation to 15 street homeless individuals from December through to mid-March, added: “We are delighted to be officially opening the doors to the Buszy and eager to welcome our first guests to the shelter on December 1.

“The space is ideal for the shelter’s reception centre with a café area, waiting area and good facilities.

“We are thankful for the support of Councillors Marland, McCall and Mr Macdonald for their help in securing the Buszy for the shelter.”
