Young musicians are invited to showcase their skills, at a new annual competition.
The first Milton Keynes Young Musician of the Year event will take place on March 4 at Walton High, sponsored by Rotary International.
Musicians will be selected from the 2015 Milton Keynes Music Festival to take part in this new competition, which will see four performers going forward to also compete in the Rotary International Young Musician of the Year competition.
Festival vice-chair Pat Haig said: “We are very excited about our partnership with Rotary International, who really celebrate the achievements of young people, and we are very grateful to Kawai Pianos who provide us with their wonderful concert grand pianos which makes our festival a very memorable experience for all our performers.”
The festival, which is an educational charity run by volunteers, began in 1968 and now runs annually in February and March each year at Walton High, and in 2014 saw almost 1,000 performances over a five-day period, culminating in a choirs and barbershop day, with school and community choirs singing.
Everyone who takes part receives a certificate and a feedback sheet from the adjudicator to help them with their future performances, and there are also medals, trophies and money prizes.
