Campaigner hits out at out of town cabs in Milton Keynes

Derrick Reid has emailed Mark Lancaster several times about his concerns.

But he says the MP has “brushed aside” his fears and told him to get in touch with MK council instead.

Mr Reid is particularly concerned about the recent Deregulation Act, which allows taxis to operate across the country rather than in a specific local authority area.

He said: “MK council’s taxi licensing procedures were tightened after the taxi-gate scandal. But cab drivers from other areas who may not have been so well-checked, are free to trade here. There should be national regulation – not deregulation.”

“I don’t feel Mr Lancaster is taking my concerns seriously enough,” he said.

Mark Lancaster said he is “satisfied” that the Deregulation Act, which came in in 2015, would not result in safety being compromised or reduce local councils’ powers.
