Campaigners welcome vote against controversial bedroom tax

Labour campaigners have welcomed today’s vote by MPs against the government’s bedroom tax.

Andrew Pakes, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Milton Keynes South, praised Lib Dem MPs who voted with Labour in Parliament today to defeat the government over the measure.

Mr Pakes criticised local Conservative MPs for their ongoing support for the tax, which has affected over 33,000 people in the South East.

He said: “This is a welcome vote against the unfair Bedroom Tax. I would like to thank those MPs who have listened to the evidence and changed their minds on this controversial issue.

“We simply don’t have enough smaller properties for tenants to move into.

“We need to start building more affordable homes to help address rising living costs and to provide the mix of houses we need in the city.”
