Staff at Specsavers donned a variety of weird and wacky headgear in support of the annual fundraising event, which saw the store give away sweets, merchandise and other gifts to lucky customers.

They also invited Newport Pagnell resident Julie Carter to the event to help organise various hat-related competitions and encourage residents to have their picture taken at a gift photo booth set up outside the store.

Julie was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour 12 years and continues to be monitored by the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. She is now an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research and dedicates her time to raising awareness about the important work carried out by the charity.

Julie says: ‘As the Specsavers store only recently opened in Newport Pagnell I thought it would be fitting to hold a Wear A Hat Day event at that store, especially given they are a main sponsor. It was great that the store manager, Mitesh, was willing to take part and promote this worthwhile cause.

‘Another significant reason for my involvement was due to the fact that my diagnosis was as a result of an eye test a number of years ago. Many like myself may not realise the two are so closely linked and therefore the importance of routine eye tests in diagnosing such conditions at as early stage.’

‘We would like to say a big thank you to Julie and all our customers who supported our Wear A Hat Day event,' Mitesh added.

'The money we raised will go a long way to helping Brain Tumour Research to continue its important research into this devastating disease.’
