Caring Milton Keynes students help Little Lives

The students were presented with a question for their Project Based Learning (PBL) project focusing

on how to make a positive contribution to their local community.

They organised a Stephenson Academy and Bridge Academy school ‘non-uniform day’ with studentsand staff donating £1 each.

Then they set to organising a charity prize raffle and tombola, which they held at the Brunel shopping centre in Bletchley. Some of the prizes were donated by F. Hinds Jewellers, Café Mediterranean Bar, Sports Direct and Pets at Home.

Teacher Amelia Hemmings said: “The students worked very hard to organise the fundraising events. It took them a lot of planning, critical thinking, teamwork, communication and negotiating skills to enable them to be so successful.”

She added: “It was also their hard work and dedication that has helped them to be so successful. I do think that because the students chose to support the neonatal unit at the hospital, out of all the charities, they seemed to all connect with the cause and it motivated them to really see the project through to the end.

“I feel very proud of each and every one of the group members and their outstanding achievement!”

A spokesman for Milton Keynes hospital charity said: “I am positively delighted to have received such kind support from the group at Bridge Academy South. They have all worked extremely hard to raise both funds and awareness of the neonatal unit and Milton Keynes Hospital Charity, and for that we are truly most thankful.”
