Sheltered housing residents have launched a project to raise £40,000 for a brand new communal area.

The Mayor, Mayoress and ward councillor Alex Walker visited Hanover Court in Stantonbury on Tuesday to kick off fundraising by joining a session of chair aerobics.

Over tea and cake the residents told of their plans for a brand new facility that will double the size of the current communal area. In just one month they have already raised £2,000.

This week Mr Walker pledged to donate £500 of his ward budget towards the project. He said: “The current building is fairly old, very small and there are no toilet or kitchen facilities which makes it hard to used effectively as a communal space.

“The new facility will transform the social life for the residents and be a facility for the wider community in MK.”
