Charity about to rehome its 500,000th hen

Members of the public are invited to offer a caring, free-range home for a few of the hundreds of ex-commercial hens that would otherwise be destined for slaughter.

The British Hen Welfare Trust is about to reach a record, with the re-homing of its 500,000th hen, who has been named Dee, as D means 500,000 in Roman numerals.

The lucky person to adopt her will not only save her life, but will also benefit from a package of goodies including a year’s feed supply, courtesy of The Smallholder range, and a Cube from trendy hen house manufacturer, Omlet.

The charity’s founder Jane Howorth said: “We are seriously excited about Dee now. We know she is coming out in January and she will be one of the lucky hens at one of our hen collections during the month.”
