CHILDREN who faced spending Christmas in hospital were cheered by a visit from two city residents.

Citizen reporter Gareth Ellis and FitMK founder Simon Williams were on hand to deliver the presents to the kids just two days before Christmas on Thursday, December 23.

The toys were donated by FitMK members and given to Gareth to pull in his sled when he took part in the Santa Run on December 5.

Unfortunately the race, raising money for the British Heart Foundation, was cancelled, but members still got together and filled the sleigh with toys for Gareth to pull along around the 12k course.

After visiting the hospital Simon said: “I would like to say a massive thank you from everyone in the ward and it was so nice to put smiles on children’s faces when they are in that situation.

“It really does makes you realise that health is the best gift anyone could ever have.”

This year the hospital will care for dozens of children throughout the Christmas period and through to New Year with some staff working Christmas and Boxing Day.

Gareth added: “It was such an overwhelming experience and one that I am lucky to be in a position to do.

“It was so nice to be able to see children and families so happy with a gift no matter how small.

“A big thank you as well has to go to the nurses who let us go in there. I hope they all had a Merry Christmas.”
