Firefighters rescued six people in the early hours of this morning after a fire at a neighbouring shop in Newport Pagnell.

The blaze is believed to have started at the Tesco Express store in Elthorne Way in Green Park, which damaged two attached properties.

One fire appliance and crew from Newport Pagnell, one from Broughton, two from Great Holm, one from Mereway, the Incident Command Unit from Aylesbury and two officers attended the incident at 3.36am.

Firefighters used a main jet, a hose reel, two sets of breathing apparatus and a turntable ladder - having already rescued a man, a woman, two girls and two boys from an adjacent property.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated, while the shops at Elthorne Way are understood to be closed today.
