BLIND toddler Brooke Chilton is one step nearer to having sight – thanks to the generosity of Citizen readers.

Cheques into the Citizen offices have so far totalled an amazing £2,500.

These range from a pensioner sending £5 and a pledge to pray for help to a bumper donation of £1,500.

Brooke’s grandmother Dee Turner said: “We are almost speechless with gratitude.”

Her family is striving to raise £50,000 to send Brooke for revolutionary treatment in China.

The procedure, which uses stem cells to ‘grow’ new optic nerves, means the toddler could have vision for the first time. All cheques have been passed on to the grateful family and they have opened a special account for Brooke’s fund.

Meanwhile, Brooke’s family, who recently collected outside Asda, are busy organising a charity golf day later this summer.
