STAFF at a city company are celebrating after scoring a big win in the baking industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.

Unifine Food & Bake Ingredients was voted as Bakery Supplier of the Year at the annual Baking Industry Awards 2011 in London on Wednesday.

The company - which is based in Kiln Farm - supplies ingredients to bakers across the UK.

They were recognised in front of 800 guests at the special ceremony held at London’s Park Lane Hilton where managing director Simon Solway was presented with his award by TV presenter Richard Madeley and senior buyer at award sponsor Sainsbury’s, Nic Storey.

The judging panel gave the company a lot of credit for their strong focus on serving its customers and bringing new, innovative products into the market.

Unifine is already well known for its high grade Belgian chocolate fillings and toppings as well as quality fruit ingredients.

Celebrating the award, Simon said: “We go out of our way to support our customers. What they need really matters to us.”

Martyn Leek, editor of the awards organiser British Baker magazine, said: “The Baking Industry Awards recognise excellence in UK baking.

“Winners have to beat off stiff competition from around the country, so winning one of these awards shows that they really are at the very top of their game.”
