City centre military march by 678 (Rifles) Squadron to commemorate Freedom of the Borough of Milton Keynes

This Sunday will see a military parade with military band in the centre of Milton Keynes to mark the Freedom of MK - the highest accolade MK Council can award to any citizen or organisation in the city - on this occasion being awarded to the 678 (Rifles) Squadron.

The excellent men and women of 678 (Rifles) Squadron – 6 Army Air Corps – with a long associated Army Reserve partnership with Milton Keynes – will exercise their right to march in a colourful, lively display next to the Theatre District between 10.30am and 11.50am.

The march is the culmination of months of planning and members of the public are welcome to come and watch this short military parade.

There will be a chance to meet and chat with servicemen and women after the event, and find out more about the work that they do.

The Council has awarded the Freedom of the Borough six times since its inception in 1974. The first was to Lord Campbell of Eskan on 18 Mar 1982. The second was to the Royal Green Jackets in 1998 and this was reconfirmed when they became part of The Rifles in 2007. Then Dr Jim Marshall OBE in 2009, Dame Cleo Laine in 2011, Red Bull Racing in 2014, then MK Dons FC Chairman, Pete Winkelman in 2015.
