City's first Poet Laureate joins youngsters for day at Stony Stratford library

Year 2 and year 4 children from St Mary and St Giles Church of England School and Russell Street School enjoyed a day of entertainment last term organised by the Friends of Stony Stratford Library.

The group has been holding an annual event for pupils since 2011 when Stony Stratford Library was threatened with closure.

The day is a way of ensuring that local children are not only aware of the location of the library but also associate it with enjoyable experiences.

Mark Niel, from Pennyland, was awarded the title in 2011 recognition of his efforts to promote poetry and local poets across Buckinghamshire.

The title sees Mr Niel perform a ceremonial role at civic events throughout the year.

Stony Stratford Library hosts weekly storytime sessions for children under 5 every Thursday from 11am to 11.30am.

It is closed on Mondays and Sundays, and open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9am – 5pm, Thursday 9am - 7pm, Saturday 9am – 1pm.

The Library is manned by volunteers from 9am - 10am daily Tuesday to Saturday and from 5pm - 7pm on Thursdays. Outside of these hours the Library will be manned by the normal Library staff.
