The money, awarded as part of Sport England’s Small Grants Programme, has already part-funded the purchase of grass cutting and aeration equipment.

It has also helped pay for a trailer to transport the equipment between four of the club’s six playing locations at Woburn, Wavendon, Little Brickhill and Ridgmont.

Club chairman Ian Doggett said: “This is a highly significant award for the club, allowing us to not only improve the quality of our playing surfaces, but also to reduce our running costs.”

The trailer will also be used every summer to transport goals from the other playing locations to Woburn for the well-established boys’ tournament, now in its 33rd year, and the girls’ tournament, which is one of England’s largest.

The tournaments are vital to the club’s sustainability, and improving pitch quality at Woburn will reduce the risk of postponement due to adverse weather.

Ian added: “We anticipate that the net effect will reduce any kind of match or training cancellations as well as allow us to divert more investment into participation at all levels.”
