Community Learning Milton Keynes praised by Ofsted

Community Learning Milton Keynes (CLMK) had its ‘Good’ rating confirmed following a visit by inspectors last month.

CLMK has provided a wide range of courses and support for thousands of people over the years, helping many of them into employment, boost their academic qualifications and improve their health and wellbeing.

“We’re very pleased with this rating and it’s particularly encouraging that Ofsted recognised where we had tackled – and improved upon – areas that were raised at the previous inspection,” said CLMK Principal Tom Molloy.

“It’s no exaggeration that over the years Community Learning MK has quite literally helped thousands of people turn their lives around by helping them learn new skills, or rediscover old ones they forgot they had.

“Obviously there’s always a degree of room for improvement, but we will do this and overall this is a very fair and positive report from Ofsted.”

Cllr Zoe Nolan, Cabinet member responsible for children and families added: “I am delighted with this good news. I was a student myself here and I know how good it is. It is important that people are given opportunities to continue learning throughout the whole of their lives – not just when they are at school.

“Community Learning Milton Keynes plays a key role locally in helping people achieve that aim – we have had people in their 80s gaining GCSEs and one year we had a father and daughter team both gain a grade A language qualification.

“So it shows it’s never too late to learn something new – congratulations to CLMK.”
