Concern over '˜lack of parking' in proposed Wolverton Agora plans

Housing developer TOWN wants to demolish the Agora and rebuild it with a mixed use development of apartments, houses and retail units.

But after meeting with TOWN representatives, the Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council is worried the current plans would result in 100 free spaces being lost.

This, it says, would have a ‘seriously negative impact’ on the Agora’s attractiveness to consumers and businesses.

Town Clerk Sally McLellan said: “The council welcome the development of the Agora, but are very concerned about the loss of public parking.

“We are keen to see the regeneration of town and want to ensure there is parking for people to use the local shops.

“We have urged MK Council cabinet member Liz Gifford not to sell the car park until they are satisfied any proposal includes public parking.”

Neil Murphy, a director of TOWN, told the Citizen: “There are no plans that have been lodged at the moment.

“Anyone coming forward to buy it must do a comprehensive survey on parking. We will be following that carefully.”

He added that TOWN hoped to hear from MK Council ‘soon’ regarding the sale.
