Concert to mark 30 years since disaster

Representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine and the new mayor of Milton Keynes will be attending the concert on Saturday, June 4, in aid of the Chernobyl Relief Foundation in the UK (CRF).

The CRF was founded in the UK in 1995 to promote aid to the children in Ukraine who suffered as a result of the world’s gravest nuclear disaster on April 26 1986.

CRF trustee Tatiana Birch, who lives in Milton Keynes, is originally from Donetsk in the Ukraine.

Tatiana said: I saw with my own eyes how the horror of Chernobyl has been affecting those around me.

“CRF aims to raise awareness on Chernobyl issues and make the lives of the suffering kids brighter.”

The concert, at 7.30pm, in collaboration with music director Adrian Boynton, features internationally acclaimed young Finnish violinist Kreeta-Julia Heikkila and Greek pianist Kornilios Michailidis, who are donating their talent for the charity.

They will be playing works by Bach, Ravel Chopin, Boulanger and Brahms.

There will also be a sale of Ukranian arts and crafts and a raffle with prizes provided by John Lewis.
