Bedding being taken away at the 'clean-up'

Council staff, in partnership with its waste services contractor Serco, visited two familiar spots close to The Point last week, and removed disgarded waste, including hundreds of needles.

In a statement the council said: “The two sites had four tents between them and after having spoken to an individual living onsite, we believe only one of these is being used to live in.

“The crews only removed bedding and a mattress that were left out in the open and were not fit for any use due to their conditions.

“No items were removed from any of the tents and the tents remain in situ.”

The spokesman continued: “As we are aware that there are people living onsite, we will arrange for an outreach worker to visit the site to engage with any occupants to offer advice and support.”

But a Milton Keynes Citizen reader, who took the image said: “When I saw the bedding being removed I felt shocked and ashamed. “Not all of the homeless people in Milton Keynes are on drugs.

“Some are just very unlucky people.

“Most of them are only in their early teens or early 20s and not enough is being done to help them.”

Milton Keynes Council added: “The council and its contractors will continue to do everything possible to support those in need whilst providing a clean, safe and thriving environment for all the residents of MK.”
