Council confirms £37.5million to improve council housing across Milton Keynes

A revised housing investment figure of £37.5 million in the council’s properties for 2018/19 was agreed by Cabinet on September 4.

The breakdown of funding includes:



> £8.6 million for new housing

> £4 million for new roofs

> £2.3 million for communal areas.

> £2.1 million for new kitchens

> £1.6 million for new doors

> £1.5 million for new bathrooms

> £1.5 million for new boilers and improved heating.

> £1.1 million on electricalimprovements.

> £1 million on new windows.

Speaking at the Cabinet meeting Cllr Nigel Long highlighted that the council was restoring annual investment in property improvements.

Cllr Long, Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, said: “Milton Keynes Council is committed to regenerating older estates such Fullers Slade, Bradville and Serpentine

Court.

“However, we are also re-establishing investment programmes across areas not covered by regeneration. We are restoring annual programmes of window replacements,

new kitchens, bathrooms, boilers, doors, electrical wiring and heating. These programmes were downgraded before Labour became the Administration and we are restoring the

annual programmes.”

Labour believes that areas not subject to regeneration should continue to see investment in improving people’s homes. In addition, the council continues to spend £10.5 million in repairs and

maintenance each year from its revenue budget. This brings this year’s spending to £37.5 million.

Cllr Long added: “We are committed to improving all council housing in Milton Keynes as well as to building new homes.

I am proud to be part of a well-run Labour Council delivering over £37 million of investment in council housing this year.”
