The council has warned to wear suitable clothing and to stock up on food as the snowy weather threatens to linger over the next few days.
A Level 3 weather warning was issued for today, before a blanket of snow covered Milton Keynes overnight.
Muriel Scott, director of public health at Milton Keynes Council, said: “Wear suitable clothing and foot wear when you go outside in the cold.
“Frosty and icy pavements and roads can lead to falls and trips.
“Prolonged periods of cold weather can be dangerous, especially for the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases.”
Level 3 alerts are put in place when average temperatures have dropped to 2°C or below, and/or widespread ice and heavy snow is present.
Top tips to prepare for colder weather:
• Look out for friends and family who may be vulnerable to cold
• Try to maintain indoor temperatures to at least 18°C, particularly if you are not mobile, have long term illness or are 65 or over
• Stay tuned for weather forecasts, ensure you are stocked with food and medications in advance (have deliveries or ask a friend to help)
