MILTON Keynes Council has been nominated in three categories for the Association for Public Service Excellence Awards.

Staff from the street cleansing and streetscene service were nominated for Best Service team after coming up with the toolkit idea.

The toolkit was developed in conjunction with contractor Serco for people to use in their communities and included tools and equipment such as brooms, litter pickers and sacks.

The council was also nominated in the Best Partnership Working initiative category for a graduate employment scheme and for a new play area in Coffee Hall in the Best Community and Neighbourhood initiative.

APSE chief executive Paul O’Brien said: “Whilst times are tough innovation and dedication are the golden threads running through public service delivery.

“The UK would be a poorer place if it were not for the vital services delivered by local councils. We should proudly celebrate their success and share best practice.”

The winners will be announced on Thursday, September 8.
