Councillor swapping Stantonbury for Spain will be '˜massively missed'

The leader of MK Council has declared the departure of veteran councillor Brian White will be a 'loss' to Milton Keynes.

The former Labour MP announced his shock resignation on Facebook during Wednesday night’s budget meeting in the chamber.

His leader, Councillor Pete Marland, today paid tribute to the work Mr White has done over the past 30 years in politics.

He said: “Brian has served the people of Milton Keynes for the past 30 years, whether that is as an MP or a councillor so I think they owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

“His knowledge and experience is unrivalled in the council chamber and will be a huge loss to MK.

“He will be massively missed, not only by the administration, but by the residents.”

Mr White was due for re-election in May’s elections, but assured residents he will stay in his post until then.

Mr Marland says it is now down to MK Labour Party to select a new candidate as the councillor swaps Stantonbury for Spain.

He told the Citizen: “I will be leaving Milton Keynes as soon as I have sold my house.

“I will take my pension, buy a villa with a swimming pool and write a book –probably an autobiography.”

He blamed quitted the council on “health reasons.”
