Anti-social behaviour and street drinking in Milton Keynes

Reports of street drinking and disorder led to a police patrol at a Milton Keynes high street.

Police say they patrolled Newport Pagnell High Street on Tuesday, May 12, after hearing concerns from residents and businesses about anti-social behaviour linked to street drinking and disorder.

They were told about groups drinking, shouting and using inappropriate language, which had led some people to avoid the area.

Officers say they spoke to two men while out on patrol. One was breaching a Community Protection Warning and will now be issued with a Community Protection Notice, which can lead to arrest and court action if ignored.

Police also worked with a local shop, who have agreed to stop selling high strength alcohol linked to street drinking.

Newport Pagnell is protected by a PSPO, giving officers powers to deal with alcohol related anti-social behaviour, including seizing alcohol when needed.

A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police said: “We are listening and will keep working with the Council and partners to make Newport Pagnell a safer place. Please keep reporting concerns to us, it really does make a difference.”
