Arsonists break lockdown for second time to cause a blaze at Milton Keynes nature reserve

Firefighters were called to the blaze in woodland at Bletchley's Blue Lagoon Local Nature Reserve shortly after 8.30pm last night (Wednesday).

A crew from Bletchley put out the blaze, which they believe was started intentionally.

Eight days previously, on Tuesday evening last week, 14 Firefighters had sped to the Blue Lagoon to deal with another major fire.

It is feared both blazes may have harmed wildlife and their habitats at the reserve.

The Blue Lagoon was created from clay pits from a former brickworks site and the surrounding woodland to be a haven for wildlife.

It is home to foxes, grey squirrel, muntjac deer, rabbits, grass snakes and Great Crested Newts as well are rare bird species including willow warblers, whitethroats, woodpeckers and grasshopper warblers.

The nature reserve gets its name from the water in its largest and deepest pit, which turns a magnificent shade of blue in the right light.
