Three members of a Mexican and Columbian organised crime group who stole Asian jewellery have been jailed for a total of 14 years.

Andres Duarte-Careano, 41, Oswaldo Clorio-Cruz, 30, and Raul Hermandez-Villaneva, 36, all pleaded guilty to a number of counts of burglary when they appeared at Northampton Crown Court on March 22.

Duarte-Careano and Clorio-Cruz were sentenced to five years, with Hermandez-Villaneva jailed for four years. They will all be deported to their countries of birth when their sentences finish.

The investigation was carried out by officers from Hampshire Constabulary, Wiltshire Police, Leicestershire Police, Northamptonshire Police and Thames Valley Police, as it included burglaries at seven houses in Thames Valley.

The burglaries all occurred last year in Geoffreyson Road and Framlingham Drive, Reading, on August 7, Brixham Road, Reading, on September 13, Turpyn Court, Woughton on the Green, on October 29, and Beauchief Close, Woodmere Close and Owston, Reading, on November 8.

Investigating officer, PC Chris Susel, said: “I welcome the substantial sentences imposed on these three defendants by the court. Hopefully these sentences will give assurances to the Asian community that these types of offences are a high priority for the Thames Valley Police.”
