A desperate carpenter has set a Crowdfunder bid to buy a new truck after he lost his old one in an eBay scam.
Jack Gallagher spent all of an inheritance he received from his grandfather on a Mitsubishi truck for his business.
Despite having the vehicle checked over professionally, it was discovered weeks later that it was an expert clone.
It has now been seized by police who, despite launching an investigation, admit there is little chance of catching the people involved in the scam.
This week Jack and his wife Michelle launched their page on the Crowdfunder website, calling it Beat the Conmen.
They are offering everybody who donates a chance to have their logo and 12 months sponsorship on the truck.
“Jack’s work takes him all over the country so the logos and details would be very visible,” said Michelle.
Until he can afford a new truck, Jack is having to restrict his business.
Said Michelle; “The vehicle was removed by the police and we have lost our money and the truck.
“ There is no comeback on eBay where we purchased it, and we cannot claim under the HPI check websites or insurance that we had.
“We are devastated. But we have decided to try and turn this situation around and raise money from companies .”
The couple hope it will also raise awareness of the dangers of buying cars through eBay
