The cat was found in her own garden on Conniburrow, bleeding and unable to walk.

She was rushed to an emergency vet who confirmed she had been deliberately stabbed.

"We were told that someone so evil beyond words had stabbed our precious cat, not once but twice," said the owner, who is too distressed to be named.

The vet found the cat had been stabbed in each of her back legs, causing burst blood vessels right down to both of her knees and her skin to become detached from her muscle.

She has had two major operations so far in an attempt to repair the damage. If they do not work, the family has been warned they might lose her.

She is described as a "gentle, sweet and loving" cat who and adores everyone around her. She never ventures much further than her own garden, say her family.

They have no idea who stabbed their cat or what the motive could be.

"This has caused so much pain, not only to Lilly physically but to us as a family. We are simply devastated that someone could do this to our innocent beloved cat," said the owner.

Cat owners in the Conniburrow are advised to be vigilant if they let their cats outside.
