Man arrested and road closures lifted after firearm incident in Milton Keynes

Streets in Bletchley have been re-opened by police investigation reports of a man with a firearm.

The closures had been in place since yesterday evening when police received reports that a firearm had been discharged multiple times on the Lakes Estate.

Residents in Serpentine Court and surrounding areas were ordered to stay inside their homes while police appeared to negotiate with a householder.

The Water Eaton Medical Centre was closed this morning and patients were referred to the Whaddon surgery.

A police spokesman said this afternoon: "Thames Valley Police were called yesterday at about 5.30pm following reports that a firearm, believed to be an air rifle, had been discharged several times in Serpentine Court, Bletchley.

"Officers attended the scene and a 26-year-old man was arrested this morning (18/5) in connection with the incident. He is currently in police custody. Road closures were put in place in order to ensure public safety, but these have now been lifted."

The spokesman added: "If you witnessed this incident, or have any information relating to it, please call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101, quoting reference 988 (17/5)."
