Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to an assault on a man on Monday evening.

The 28-year-old victim was driving home along Britten Grove near Old Farm Park at around 8.45pm when he came across two large snowmen blocking the road. When he stopped, a group of youths started throwing snowballs at him.

He chased them across a nearby field towards Byrd Crescent where one of the group hit him with a metal pole. He sustained a head injury that required stitches.

PC Seb Russell, investigating officer said: “The victim was quite lucky to have only sustained a small wound, which was quite deep and required stitches. Although the assault took place in a field with no witnesses, there may be witnesses to the start of the incident. “

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact PC Russell on the non-emergency number 101.

If you don’t want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
